Everyone should be able to participate meaningfully in the economy and provide for themselves and their loved ones.

South Africa continues to face critical levels of youth unemployment, with over half of young people unable to access meaningful economic opportunities. Entrenched poverty and inequality further limit participation in the economy and the ability to build sustainable livelihoods.

Tshikululu’s approach to livelihoods is holistic and systemic, addressing not only immediate income generation but also the broader ecosystem that enables economic participation. We invest in entrepreneurship, enterprise growth, and access to formal employment.
By strengthening both individual capacities and the systems that sustain them, such as local enterprise networks, market linkages, and mentorship structures, our model equips young people to thrive beyond short-term interventions.

Through this dual focus on personal empowerment and systemic interventions, Tshikululu fosters sustainable livelihoods, strengthens local economies, and contributes to long-term resilience in communities facing the country’s highest levels of youth unemployment.
