Resourcing for Success

Resourcing for success means finding the best people with the skills and capabilities needed to manage and advise our clients when it comes to social investment. It means having the kind of people who are skilled, ethical, and are open to continuous learning. It means creating a team that is agile, client-centric and collaborative to harness the diverse, yet complementary experience and skills required to manage corporate social investment.

Talent Management as our Strategic Priority
In 2024, we prioritised talent management, learning, and development initiatives as part of our strategic objectives that assisted us to build skills required for the organisation moving forward.

Tshikululu continues to partner with various programmes and organisations as a way of directly impacting on segments of society, including:

1. The YES Programme on behalf of government
The YES programme is the highest impact private sector youth employment programme in South Africa. As a private sector led initiative, it aims to address the country’s youth unemployment crisis by empowering businesses to create jobs for our unemployed youth. The YES programme provides a 12-month quality work environment for unemployed young people to become the future skilled professionals, and entrepreneurs in the country.

In Tshikululu, we currently host three of youth programme recipients and are involved in projects in the following areas of business:

  • social impact investment,
  • monitoring and evaluation,
  • human capital management,
  • business development
  • social impact administration.

More so, the current cohort has been enrolled in a learnership programme which will be completed in 2025. Upon successful completion, the cohort members may be utilised in feeder roles across the organization.

2. Partnership with Sparrow Learnerships

Tshikululu as a socially responsible organisation invests in numerous ways in communities where we do business and support programmes catering for the needs of people living with disability.

It is within this context that Tshikululu has partnered with Sparrow College since 2016 to sponsor unemployed learners living with disability on an annual basis.

Sparrow FET College is an award-winning skills development training solutions partner, specialising in Artisan Skills and Disability Solutions for people living with disability.

In 2024, Tshikululu sponsored 3 unemployed learners with disabilities, to complete a National Certificate in Information Technology: Technical Support (NQF 4). The learners are in progress to complete their certificate courses.

3. Independent Consultants

In 2024 we strengthened our current panel of independent consultants in the following areas:

  • Social Impact Investments
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Business Development
  • Special Projects

The use of independent consultants as a strategic lever to close the gaps on capacity requirements was critical for the success of Tshikululu. We engage with consultants based on need and availability of budget to capacitate our projects and respond to client needs. Currently, we have 10 consultants in the various departments as indicated above.

4. Internal Career Pathways

In 2024, Social Impact Investments and Fund Management introduced three career development pathways to strengthen our employees’ career mobility. Upon reflection, the organisation identified the need for upskilling within the Social Investment department and retaining the skills internally for succession planning and stability.  Four Social Impact Analysts and one Monitoring and Evaluation Officer were enrolled in the 2024 programme and our final assessments will be completed in June 2025.
