Projects that directly benefit people with disabilities (physical, mental, intellectual, learning, visual, and
hearing) fall under the disability sector. Disability projects are spread over a number of sectors. Broadly speaking, these sectors fall with the ambit of either social development and/or education, with a few having a purely health character (in the case of purely medical interventions).
The support for this sector offered by the Anglo American Chairman’s Fund targets homes, shelters and outreach programmes that provide quality care at the statutory and aftercare levels of service delivery.
Please note that De Beers supports disability projects primarily in communities surrounding its operations, namely in the municipalities of Siyanda, Ga-Segonyana, Taung, Frances Baard, Letsemeng, Nama Khoi, Kamiesberg and Richtersveld (Northern Cape), and Musina and Blouberg (Limpopo).
The Momentum Programme for People with Disabilities aims to support and strengthen the abilities and capabilities of people with disabilities to better cope in a mainstream life, while supporting and strengthening the abilities and capabilities of society to include people with disabilities. Projects focus on care, education and prevention.
