UTi was founded in 1976 with a dream of creating a global forwarding and clearing company.

Today, UTi Worldwide has achieved the dream, providing air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage and other supply chain management services on a global basis. The company serves a large and diverse base of global and local companies, including customers operating in industries with unique supply chain requirements.

Through its supply chain planning and optimisation services, UTi assists its customers in designing and implementing solutions that improve the predictability and visibility, and reduce the overall costs of their supply chains.

UTi has embarked on an empowerment transaction that has seen the formation of the UTi Empowerment Trust (UET) holding a 25% stake in UTi South Africa.

Founded in 2004, the benefits of UET are used solely for the education of Black employees and their dependents and nominees. The Trust has been structured to ensure empowerment through education across the beneficiaries nationally.

The bursary programme is professionally managed by Tshikululu Social Investments and the workings of its bursary scheme are outsourced to professional bursary administrators, Career Wise. UET’s sole focus is on tertiary education, which it believes is the best way of making a positive contribution to the betterment of South Africa’s growth and long term prosperity.
