Having identified a dire need for proper classrooms in the rural areas of Limpopo, the De Beers Fund’s Limpopo Rural Schools Programme works to the eradication of education infrastructure backlogs, as well as the improvement of maths and science results in the province. The Programme provides classrooms, enviroloo toilets, water tanks, fences and furniture to selected schools. |

Founded in 1945, the African Children’s Feeding Scheme distributed food to children in need daily. Local volunteers indentify malnourished children through visits to primary schools, while otheres are referred to AFCS by clinics or found through random house visits by one of the organisation’s 350 active members. The organisation feeds more than 18,000 children in Soweto each day, approximately a third of which are HIV-positive or have AIDS-related illnesses. |
The Field Band Foundation runs a successful youth arts development programme with remarkable results, something the De Beers Fund is delighted to be associated with. Two of the bands supported by De Beers are to be found in Kimberley’s Galeshewe community, and in nearby Beaconsfield. The former band has won the keenly contested annual National Championship for several years in a row, the latter has won the First Division. |
