In line with the vision of being a great business helping to create a better world, First National Bank (FNB) views its role within the country as going way beyond that of a major player in the business environment. A big focus for many years has been on adopting initiatives that will make South Africa a better place for all – this is the work of the FNB Fund.
The FNB Fund is a significant part of the FirstRand Foundation, and has five flagship programmes to reflect its focus areas:
The Community Care Programme supports organisations working in the fields of gender-based violence, child abuse and youth-at-risk. The main focus is to strengthen community initiatives that build social cohesion, prevent social pathologies and promote equality. The programme will work with organisations dedicated to prevention and early intervention, research and advocacy and capacity-building of community-based organisations, with a main emphasis on family preservation (as outlined in the new Children’s Act).

Applications for the Community Care Programme’s current three-year programme cycle (2012-2014) are closed. However, organisations working in the sectors aligned to the Programme are encouraged to contact us in order to start exploratory discussions.

- Supporting the community-based provision of services;
- Site-specific ECD development and assessment;
- Capacity-building and mentorship for emerging, high-risk organisations;
- Building public awareness (especially with parents) to help develop an understanding of child development and the importance of high-quality ECD services; and
