To date, the 1st for women trust has donated over R7.5 million to women-related causes and charity organisations. The trust has two focus areas:

Funding guidelines
Cervical cancer, despite being preventable and treatable, is responsible for the deaths of many women in South Africa. It is recognised as a disease of poverty; a result of women failing to access suitable screening and treatment mechanisms.

The Cervical Cancer Programme aims to reduce the incidence of cervical cancer and will support the following programme strategies:

  • Screening for cervical cancer;
  • Vaccination against HPV; and
  • Health promotion through education and awareness.

Funding guidelines
The 1st for women trust aims to contribute to the prevention of gender-based violence, while supporting survivors of gender-based violence. The programme focuses on three areas:

  • Community-based prevention of gender-based violence (GBV);
  • Strengthening of services within the criminal justice system; and
  • Supporting organisations providing services to survivors of gender-based violence.

The programme welcomes applications from gender organisations which:

  • Have a national footprint or extend their services into rural areas;
  • Include people with disabilities in their programmes;
  • Include men as partners.

Application deadlines

Application and reporting forms for 2012 are now available for download – please do not use forms from 2011 or earlier.

All grants must be reported on in the format required by the reporting form below. Please check your grant letter for the deadline of your report.
